[etc.] 퍼블릭 아이비(Public Ivy)

 퍼블릭 아이비, 퍼블릭 아이비리그는 아이비리그(Ivy League, 하버드와 예일 대학교를 포함한 미북동부 사학 명문 대학교) 학교들과 비슷한 수준의 교육을 제공하는 미국내 명성있는 공립 학교들은 지칭한다.  퍼블릭 아이비는 다른 여러 기관에서 주관하는 대학 순위와 마찬가지로 여러해를 거치면서 개정돼왔다. 이 용어는 1985 'Public Ivies: A Guide to America's Best Public Undergraduate Colleges and Universities'의 작가이자 예일 대학교 입학 사정관이었던 리처드 몰(Richard Moll)이 처음 사용했다. 가장 초기인 1985년에 선정된 퍼블릭 아이비는 다음과 같다.

- Miami University (Oxford, Ohio)
- University of California (applies to the campuses as of 1985: Berkeley, Los Angeles, San Diego, Irvine, Davis, Santa Barbara, Santa Cruz, Riverside)

 이후 추가로 9개의 대학이 Worthy runners-up란 이름으로 추가 선정되었고, Runner-up(준우승)에서 알 수 있듯이 퍼블릭 아이비에 준하는 2그룹 대학들이다. Worthy runners-up 선정 후 시간이 많이 흘러 아래 목록에 이름을 올린 대학들이 현재 Original list 대학들에 비해 수준이 떨어진다고 볼 수 없다.
